We Believe in the Right of All Women To Live Free From Fear and Abuse
Chester Women’s Aid has been in existence since 1976, setting up Chester Refuge and running it with volunteers. 1989 marked a change when the Committee joined with a Housing Association to provide paid staff to support residents. 2002 brought more changes as the charity Committee and the housing provider parted company, and the charity withdrew from the management of the refuge.
The Charity continued support to the refuge, and other specialist domestic abuse services, establishing the following aims:
- To SUPPORT Women & families experiencing domestic abuse
- To raise AWARENESS of domestic abuse
- To MONITOR provision of services to women & families experiencing domestic abuse
Our current sphere of activity involves raising awareness of domestic abuse, and raising money via donations and events for local families experiencing domestic abuse unable to access statutory sources of funding.
The charity does not have staff, but volunteers work either as Trustees or within the Volunteers Group. Volunteers are bound by the Terms of Reference for the Volunteers of Chester Women’s Aid and the Trustees are bound by the Constitution and requirements of the Charities Commission.
